Best Clockify Alternatives in 2026, for Teams That Invoice

Prices checked: 29 October 2026.

Clockify is hard to beat on price. Its free plan covers a small team, invoicing arrives at $5.49 per user per month, and even its top tier is $11.99. If all you need is a timer and a report, stop here and use Clockify.

This post is for a narrower reader: a small firm that bills clients for its time, where the hours have to become an invoice, the invoice has to become a payment, and someone has to chase the late ones. That is where the price comparison gets more interesting.

Disclosure first: we make SB Assistant, one of the tools below. The rule is the same as on our other comparisons: every competitor number comes from the vendor's own pricing page on the date above, and we say plainly where we lose. We lose to Clockify on price, and it isn't close. But that price already includes project management and a CRM, ready to switch on, so you may be able to drop a separate tool or two.

Where Clockify stops, for a team that invoices

Clockify's tiers are Free, Basic ($3.99), Standard ($5.49), Pro ($7.99) and Enterprise ($11.99), per user per month billed annually. Monthly billing runs about 20% higher. The billing features arrive in steps:

  • Free covers up to 5 users, but has no billable rates, no invoicing and no approvals, and reports only look back one month.
  • Basic adds billable rates.
  • Standard adds invoicing, recurring invoices, timesheet approvals and the QuickBooks integration.
  • Pro adds expenses, money-based project budgets, scheduling and GPS tracking.

Two things matter once you invoice from it:

  1. Getting paid happens somewhere else. Clockify emails an invoice as a PDF attachment and tracks its status (Sent, Paid, Overdue, Void). Neither its pricing page nor its billing feature page lists online card or bank payments. The client pays by whatever method you put on the invoice, and you mark it paid.
  2. Every invited user is a paid seat. Clockify's pricing page says it directly: "Every active or invited user listed on your Team page occupies one paid seat." That is fair, and it is how most vendors count. Just count your contractors before you compare.

None of this makes Clockify a bad choice. A 10-person team on Standard pays about $55 a month and gets real invoicing. The question is whether you want the rest of the billing loop in the same tool.

SB Assistant: for the whole billing loop at one price

What it is: A suite for small US service businesses: time tracking with invoicing, project management and a CRM. One login, one bill.

Pricing: $14 per seat per month, every app included. No tiers, no feature gates, no usage fees. Client-portal users are free, and AI agents don't take a seat.

How that compares: Most tools here put timesheet approvals on a higher tier, so that is the fair comparison for a team that invoices. Clockify is the exception: approvals are on Standard at $5.49. Harvest Enterprise is $14 plus usage fees. Toggl Premium is $16, and clients still can't pay online. Paymo Pro is $23.90 on monthly billing (less on annual). SB is $14 with approvals, online card and ACH payment, and overdue reminders included, and project management and a CRM are already in the seat, ready to switch on.

Where it wins: The part after the timer. Approved hours flow into a branded invoice. The client gets a hosted page where they pay by card or ACH. Retainers can bill themselves on a schedule. Overdue invoices get automatic reminders at 7, 30 and 60 days. Project profitability with cost-vs-billable rates and QuickBooks Online sync are on the same seat, because everything is.

Where it doesn't: Price, first. At 10 people, SB is $140 a month against about $55 for Clockify Standard. Part of that gap pays for project management and a CRM, already in the seat; that only counts if it replaces a separate PM or CRM tool you'd otherwise pay for. We also have no free plan, no GPS or activity tracking, no scheduling, no idle detection and no native mobile apps (SB installs as a web app). We are newer and smaller than everyone else here, and US-only.

On switching: SB's importer was built and tested against Harvest and Toggl CSV exports. Clockify's detailed export uses similar column names, but we haven't tested it yet. The importer shows a preview before anything is saved, so you can check your file in a few minutes. The SB vs Clockify comparison page has every feature row side by side.

Honest fit: Teams of 2-10 people that bill for time and want invoicing, payment and collections in the tool that tracks the hours. See how SB handles time tracking and invoicing for agencies, or start free: 30 days, every feature, no card.

Harvest: for the most mature invoicing workflow

What it is: A time-and-billing tool with one of the smoothest tracked-hours-to-invoice flows in the category, and payment integrations with Stripe, QuickBooks Online, Xero and others.

Pricing: Teams at $9 per seat per month and Enterprise at $14, both billed annually ($11 and $17.50 monthly), with a 30-day trial and no card. Usage fees sit on top. Harvest's own page says "additional invoices, projects, clients, and tasks are billed based on what you use." Timesheet approvals and profitability reporting are Enterprise features.

Where it wins: Invoicing polish and integrations. Harvest earned its reputation here.

Where it doesn't: Predictability. Your bill tracks your business activity as well as your headcount, so a busy billing month costs more. And if you need approvals, the comparison is Enterprise at $14 plus usage, not Teams at $9. We covered this in more depth in Best Harvest Alternatives in 2026 and the Harvest comparison page.

Honest fit: Teams whose invoice volume is modest and who want the most established billing flow.

Toggl Track: for the best timer, with billing elsewhere

What it is: The category's benchmark for daily tracking: fast timers, browser extensions that work inside dev and work tools, native mobile apps, and no screenshots or surveillance features.

Pricing: Free for up to 3 users. Starter is $9 per user per month and Premium is $16, billed annually ($12 and $24 monthly). Billable rates are on Starter. Timesheet approvals, labor costs and profitability reports are on Premium.

Where it wins: The tracking experience, by a distance. It also has a QuickBooks Online integration on paid plans.

Where it doesn't: Billing. Toggl builds an invoice from a Summary or Detailed report as a PDF you download and send yourself. Clients can't pay online from it, and it sends no reminders. Moving from Clockify to Toggl buys a nicer timer, not a better billing loop.

Honest fit: Teams that invoice from accounting software anyway. Our Toggl comparison page has the side-by-side.

FreshBooks: for invoicing and accounting in one place

What it is: Accounting and invoicing software with time tracking built in. It comes at the problem from the opposite side: billing first, tracking second.

Pricing: Priced per plan rather than per seat. Lite is $23 a month for 5 billable clients, Plus is $43 for 50, and Premium is $70 for unlimited clients. Each additional team member is $11 a month. Every plan includes time tracking, invoicing, recurring invoices, late-payment reminders and online card payments. There is a 30-day trial with no card.

Where it wins: Getting paid, and the books. Card payments, reminders and accounting live in one product, so for many small firms it can also replace the accounting tool.

Where it doesn't: Team time tracking is not the centre of the product. Its pricing page lists time tracking but doesn't mention team timesheets or approvals, so test those in the trial if more than one person logs hours. The client cap per plan matters too: a firm with 60 active clients is on Premium, and at 10 people that is $70 plus 9 × $11, or $169 a month.

Honest fit: Owner-led firms where the invoice and the books matter more than the timesheet.

Paymo: for project management with invoicing attached

What it is: A project management tool with time tracking and invoicing, aimed at small agencies and studios.

Pricing: The Free plan (1 user, 2 projects) includes invoices. Plus is $15.90 per user per month and Pro is $23.90, billed monthly. Annual billing takes up to 40% off. New accounts were getting an introductory discount for the first three months when we checked. Recurring invoices, expenses and project profitability are on Plus. Timesheet approvals, Gantt charts, employee scheduling and leave management are on Pro. The trial is 15 days.

Where it wins: Planning. Employee scheduling and leave management are things SB doesn't do at all, and Paymo adds a portfolio-level Gantt chart on top. If you plan work by who is free next week, Paymo is ahead of us.

Where it doesn't: Approvals need Pro at $23.90 a month on monthly billing, and its pricing page doesn't say whether clients can pay invoices online.

Honest fit: Studios that want schedule-driven project management and are happy to buy Pro.

Or: stay on Clockify

If your invoices are simple, your clients pay by bank transfer anyway, and a PDF by email is enough, Clockify Standard is excellent value. Upgrade to Pro if you need budgets or scheduling. At 10 people that is about $80 a month, still well under most of this list.

Run the numbers on your own headcount and invoice volume before you move anything. Add the cost of whatever tool collects your payments today. If the total is close, stay where you are. Switching has its own cost.

We publish comparisons with a simple rule: every competitor claim is checked against the vendor's own pages on the date at the top, and we say plainly where we lose. If we got a number wrong, tell us and we'll fix it.
